Feast of Assumption
August 15- The Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven.
This feast is normally a holy day of obligation but because this feast falls on a Monday the USCCB states that the obligation is not in place.
I thought it would be nice to talk about this feast.
On November 1, 1950 Pope Pius XII which he using papal infalliblity declared the Feast of Assumption as a dogma of the church which means that the belief of Assumption is required of all Catholics. Pope Pius XII warn that if we turn away from this belief that person has falled away from the Catholic Faith.
The Feast of Assumption commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven, before her body could begin to decay--a foretaste of our own bodily resurrection at the end of time. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin's passing into eternal life.
