Saint of the Week:
This weekend marks the Tenth Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States of America. Please join us in prayer as "We Remember" the tragic events of that day.
I'm sure you remember where you were, I was on the treadmill in the gym. The TV was on to alleviate the boring exercise. Suddenly, a news story came on reporting an airplane had crashed into one of the towers of the World Trade Center. The scene was terrible, I will never forget hearing the noise and seeing the smoke and fire from the crash. I knew no one in the plane could survive and my heart reached out in prayer. No one knew it at that moment, but the world changed that day. There were four coordinated attacks that took the lives of almost 3000 innocent people, including Firefighters and Police rescuers. Hijacked planes targeted the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the Capitol. This final plane crashed in a lonely field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Years ago, Our Blessed Mother appeared at Fatima and told us to pray the Rosary for World Peace. There was no better day to follow that request, and I'm sure many of our Rosary Makers recited this gift of prayer. We now know the extent of the tragedy that unfolded that day. But it is impossible to even imagine how many people around the world felt sorrow in their hearts. We now come to the Tenth Anniversary of the tragedy. Let us join again in praying the Rosary for the victims of 9 11, their families, friends, the many people who were effected by the events that followed, and as Our Blessed Mother asked, for World Peace.
It is fitting that a large Cross of I-beams was found standing in the devastation at ground zero. In the true spirit of Christianity, it gives us hope for the future and consolation for all that was lost that day.
